Youth Art Contest

theme: high flying adventures

Calling all young artists! This year’s theme invites students to bring the thrill of flight to life on paper. From high-speed jets soaring through the sky to heart-pounding airshow performances and daring aerial stunts, your imagination is the limit! Whether it’s vintage warbirds in formation or futuristic aircraft breaking the sound barrier, show us your vision of aviation in action. Winning artwork will be displayed at the Central Coast AirFest!

Selection Criteria 

Judging Categories: Grades K-2, Grades 3-4, Grades 5-6, Grades 7-8, Grades 9-12
Entries will be grouped by grade level and carefully reviewed by a panel of judges. Submissions will be evaluated based on the following criteria: message, creativity, artistic quality, and originality. ​Three finalists from each grade category will be selected.

Mailed artwork should be placed in a large-format envelope, (please don’t fold artwork).

Please fill out the mailing submission form and attach it to the back of your submission before mailing or
delivering it to Planes Of Fame Headquarters.

Prizes and Recognition

Finalists will receive TWO FREE tickets to the 2025 Central Coast AirFest in Santa Maria, CA. The winners will be announced during AirFest! All finalists will have their works of art on display during the show.

Contest Rules & deadline

● Open to all grades (K-12th grade)
● Open to students that reside in San Luis Obispo County and Santa Barbara County
● One entry per person
● Online submissions should not exceed 2 MB
● All mailing submissions must be the standard size of 8.5 X 11. Artwork must not be framed or outlined
with borders.
-Medium: All artwork must be done by hand (or in the case of physically handicapped students, using
feet or mouth). Any of the following medium are permitted: Watercolor, acrylic, oil paint, indelible
marker pens, felt-tip pens, soft ballpoint pens, indelible ink, crayon or similar permanent medium.
-Reproduction Rights: Once received, entries become (and remain) the property of the Planes of Fame Air Museum and may be used for a variety of marketing, merchandising, and promotional submission.
